Throughout this project I have had the opportunity to really explore and push my skills further. With this being a self – lead project I decided to focus mainly on my desired career pathway being graphic design and overall push myself to try digitalising my work.
Having the ability to access photoshop in my work studio this has given me opportunity to learn the basics and begin to interpret it into my work. In this project I have found a passion for photography and creating striking photographs which I then manipulated by using photoshop.
Thinking into a final piece, I would like to follow a scenario that I have been set a real life brief to create posters and leaflets for an event called “Leeds light night.” This idea came from a previous event which occurred in Leeds. I feel I could combine my photography, interest in colour and photoshop skills to create a striking series of advertisements. The purpose of my final piece is to engage with the audience and try to get them to consider ‘attending the event.’
In order to carry out my idea, I have been looking at previous “night light” advertisements where I can the formal elements colour, text, space and lay out have all been deeply taken into consideration. In a recent design I transformed a photographed based on a wall outside of the bus station, I did this using inspiration from an artist called Tina Louise Hunderup. Her work appealed to me by the way she used spacing with shapes to make her buildings appear distorted. When I combined this technique into my own photographs and used bright luminous colours this turned out to be one of my successful pieces which stuck out the most in my works. The shapes represent the distorted pieces of the building. In the case of my scenario I could link the theme distorted also to the distortion of the lights. When taking a photograph of a Christmas tree I have noticed the lights are blurred and give off a distorted feel, If I could photograph bright lights and edit them to have the same effect I could then overlay this onto my poster and leaflets.
For my final piece to exhibition standard I would ensure my poster is of A1 scale, potentially larger and will have this professionally printed in gloss photo paper. The poster will be pinned onto the wall will large wooden nails to gain the industry feel. In terms of the leaflets I am unsure weather to pin them onto the wall, have them stood on a shelf or even hanging from the ceiling on string. The time scale I will set myself to create my final outcome will be two weeks, I feel as it is mainly computer based this will be a reasonable time scale, one problem I may face is I will only be able to access photoshop at college therefore I will be restricted from working on my final piece at home on my laptop. A way I could overcome this is if I buy the software onto my computer and try to find a free trial which I can cancel my subscription to. This piece will be a low budget artwork scaling from around £20. When researching how much an A1 printed poster would be the cost is around £10, this gives me spare money to buy the fixtures for the posters and potentially a shelf.
